It is generally characterized by significant impairments in language, communication, social relatedness and academic skills, as well as the presence of challenging behaviors that can interfere not only with learning but also with normal functioning within the family and the community. A diagnosis of autism can give rise to significant and difficult challenges for the child, his or her family, educators and other caregivers, as well as deep concern about the future. Research has indicated, however, that the science of Applied Behavior Analysis can help us in meeting the challenges posed by this unique disorder. The proper implementation of such strategies can result in a greatly improved prognosis for the quality of life for the individual with autism and his or her family. MISSION STATEMENT Our Vision: Provide a model program for students with autism that promotes "best practices" in all areas of programming. Provide services to address all functional areas of students' growth and development, including transition services to mainstream educational, recreational and community settings. Educate the wider community about autism and Applied Behavior Analysis and provide opportunities for individuals with autism to achieve a greater degree of participation and acceptance in their community.   ABOUT THE PROGRAM The Mosaic School is a private school that serves children with autism ranging in age from five through 21 years of age. Students receive an education individualized to their unique behavioral and learning needs, with emphasis upon acquiring those communication, social and academic skills necessary to live and function within the family, school and community settings.
